Intro
Climbing shoes are precision tools. Taking good care of them extends their life, improves performance, and saves you money on resoles. Follow our simple Shoesentials guide to keep your shoes in top condition.
Heat
- Heat breaks down glue bonds in the sole and rand.
- Never dry your shoes on a radiator, in direct sunlight, or with a hairdryer.
- Store in a cool, ventilated area.
Moisture
- Moisture also weakens adhesives and can cause odor.
- After climbing, remove shoes from your bag and let them dry naturally.
- Stuff with paper if damp — replace paper as needed.
Odor Control
- Sweat + bacteria = odor buildup.
- Dirt and chalk also damage fabrics and glue.
- Use a probiotic spray (eco-friendly & safe) to neutralize bacteria.
- Brush off dirt and chalk regularly.
Cleaning
- Gently brush off chalk and dust after each session.
- Wipe inside with a damp cloth (water only). Avoid soaking.
- Never machine wash.
Pro Tips
- Inspect shoes after climbing. If you see sole thinning → plan a resole.
- Remove laces before cleaning for better access.
- Deep water soloing? Do it at your own risk 😉.
- Keep a second pair of shoes to rotate between sessions.
When to Resole
- Sole thinning under the big toe → resole early for best results.
- Rand damage = higher repair cost.
- Holes or torn uppers = too late.
